US Backpacks
SCR-194 / BC-222
is an American backpack, developed for the artillery.
It dates from the 1930s.
It is generally considered to be the first true US Army portable transceiver.
It contains two tubes
It used plug in coils
Because it was intended for use by the Artillery, it had
Earphones (HS-22) and a separate
Microphone (T-24).
The battery strapped to the bottom of the set, and a
telescoping antenna screwed into the top cover. The radio and battery fit
into a custom made canvas bag. (BG-71) which was worn on the soldier's back.
The Infantry was supplied a version, SCR-195/BC-322. It covered 52-66 MHz
in one band.
