AN-PRC130
is a US HF backpack, built by L3 communications. (so the description says).
The frontplate, however, shows the "Southcom" logo and the marking "SC-140".
Both hint that it could be Southcom's successor of SC-120 and SC-130.
The main part (transceiver only) is the RT-1606(PC).
Using additional units, it serves as mobile or base station. The power output can be as high as 125 Watts.
It can be used as:
Manpack (5 or 20 W),
Mobile station (5 or 20 W),
Base station (5 or 20 W),
Mobile station (5, 20 or 125 W),
Base station (5, 20 or 125 W).
All configurations can be equipped optionally with frequency hopping and voice encryption.
The digital antenna tuner stores the last used 32 frequencies in a non volatile memory. The frequencies used are
silently tuned in 100 ms. The tuning of new frequencies lasts about 2 seconds.
Rod antennas, wire antennas and other untuned antennas, like the NVIS- antenna
AS-2259, are tuned by the ATU.
Tuned antennas, like dipoles, are directly connected to a 50 Ohm connector, bypassing the ATU.
The transceiver is protected against damages by high SWR, open or short-circuit antenna connections.
The power supply is protected against too low or too high voltage, and wrong polarity.
