R-880
is a Medium and Long wave receiver, used in the
complete Warsaw Pact.
This solid state receiver was used for air traffic surveillance, and also for mobile Satellite-
monitoring stations (with a converter for the HF- bands).
It is built into a metal housing.
For this purpose mostly cheap LW/MW- radio receivers were used.
It is suspected that the R 880 was too expensive in acquisition, so the cheap radio- solution was preferred.
The front (here in Czech language) has different letterings for each country . For this purpose
a screwed on plate is used; behind this plate the front is blank.
The frequency range is devided into four ranges, operated by pushbuttons;
The frequency is displayed by LED- numbers. This display can be switched off, to serve energy
when battery- operated.
BFO for CW- reception is built-in.
The power supply can be 110 or 220V AC, or 12V DC.
Headphones or loudspeakers can be connected. The middle plug of the 3- pole connector is 12V,
for operation of an amplified loudspeaker.
The receiver is designed for 7/24 hour operation.
