AN-URT-27

is an American Beacon or Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT). ELT normally are activated at bailout and send a signal to locate the pilot. For this purpose it is a transmit-only-SAR-device. A disadvantage is that the signal blocks the frequency; besides, it can be traced by enemy forces.
The signal is a tone oscillating between 1000 and 300 hertz two times a second.
