Solosender S 100/100B (for 100 MHz)
It also was built for 80 MHz: Solosender S 80/100
"Solosender" is a transmitter used for railway tasks. It is a transmitter only,
transmitting call tones and voice. An answer, if necessary, comes by
loudspeaker, signs etc.
When assembling a train, a shunter could test the brake installation of a complete train. The call tone of the
Solosender was received in the engine. The receiver opened a magnetic valve which in turn operated the brakes.
An instrument at the end of the train showed the 100 % operation of the brakes.
The built-in microfone was meant for warning purposes. A receiver was connected to the station's amplifier;
warnings could be given out directly to the loudspeakers.
The small "roof" of the antenna in the first place is meant for protection of the operational elements,
since the radio is a "momentary" radio only. In addition it has the useful side affect, that the additional
roof capacity shortenes the antenna to a size smaller than lambda/fourth and still is resonant.
