Instead of the 2 batteries needed in : R-105D to R-109 D R-105 M to R-109 M R-107  R-104 M you can use the circuit above. (Thanks to DJ8CY).  Values: 2 resistors,  1 Ohm, 3 W each;    6 diodes, e.g. 1N540.    Enough power is provided to even run the transceiver R-104. The  5 V come -in my case- from a cheap computer switching power supply. Please make sure that the power supply may be used without a load;  some  cannot  stand this.     R-107 T digi can be used directly on 5 V without the circuit above.
